Title: World Hearing Day Activities
Alternate tite:

World Hearing Day activities

Description:

On the occasion of World Hearing Day 2025, the Department of Speech and Hearing, Father Muller College, Mangalore, conducted a series of activities aimed at raising awareness about Noise-Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL) and the risks of excessive headphone use while gaming, watching sports, and listening to music. The initiatives were aligned with the World Health Organization’s (WHO) launch of global standards for safe listening in gaming and sports.

Competitions & Awareness Initiatives
1. Movie Making Competition:
A video-making competition was organized for students of all batches, encouraging them to creatively showcase the dangers of loud music, sports commentary, and gaming noise through headphones. The students addressed key issues in innovative ways, bringing attention to hearing conservation. The winners will be felicitated during the Annual Culturals event.

2. WHO Promotional Materials:
To maximize outreach, WHO’s official awareness materials were digitally circulated across the campus via the Media and Magazine Committee of the Student Council. This initiative helped in spreading information on safe listening habits and hearing health.

Upcoming Hearing Health Initiatives

1. Pamphlet Distribution & Future School Camps:
Awareness pamphlets covering headphone overuse, myths, and preventive measures will be prepared for distribution. Due to ongoing school and college examinations, hearing health camps in schools will be conducted at a later date to ensure wider participation.

Upon relocation to the new department facility, all faculty and staff of Father Muller Charitable Institutions will be offered free hearing screening at the Unit of Audiology, Department of Speech and Hearing.
