Alternate tite:

Save listening: promoting hearing health through awareness and early screening

Description:

Swarsangya Charitable Trust celebrated World Hearing Day 2025 with the theme “Save Listening: A Step Towards Hearing Health.” The event aimed to raise awareness about the importance of newborn hearing screening, the prevention of noise-induced hearing loss, and the adoption of safe listening habits.

The trust conducted free newborn hearing screenings across multiple government and private hospitals in Surat, ensuring early detection of hearing impairment and timely intervention. Educational sessions were held to highlight the risks of undiagnosed hearing loss and its impact on a child’s speech, language, and cognitive development.

Additionally, awareness campaigns on noise pollution and safe listening practices were conducted, focusing primarily on traffic police personnel who are frequently exposed to high noise levels. These campaigns utilized posters and social media outreach to emphasize safe listening habits, such as maintaining safe headphone volumes, taking breaks, and using ear protection devices in noisy environments.

A special initiative provided free hearing check-ups for traffic police officers, emphasizing the importance of regular hearing evaluations and hearing conservation practices.

The event witnessed active participation from healthcare professionals, volunteers, and local communities, fostering a collaborative effort to promote hearing health. Swarsangya Charitable Trust remains committed to sustaining these initiatives beyond World Hearing Day, ensuring ongoing education and outreach to protect individuals from preventable hearing loss.

Impactful Story:

During a newborn hearing screening, a baby was identified with hearing impairment, enabling early intervention and safeguarding the child’s speech and language development. The parents expressed deep gratitude, recognizing that timely diagnosis changed their child’s future.

A traffic police officer, unaware of his gradual hearing loss due to prolonged noise exposure, benefited from a free hearing check-up. After adopting protective measures, he became an advocate for hearing health.

Additionally, posters and social media campaigns in collaboration with hospitals promoted safe listening practices, ensuring that hearing health awareness reached a wider audience and encouraged community engagement.
