Title: Harmony in Action – Transforming Lives Through Sustainable Hearing Care
Alternate tite:
Harmony in action – transforming lives through sustainable hearing care
Description:
Following the successful implementation of “Harmony of Senses: Bridging Ear and Eye Care” in 2024, Tzu Chi Philippines launched the Tzu Chi Hearing Aid Bank this year. This initiative, which coincided with World Hearing Day and Tzu Chi Foundation’s Quarterly Charity Day, is the first of its kind in the country. The program established a one-stop facility dedicated to collecting, refurbishing, and distributing quality hearing aids sourced through Tzu Chi’s global network and local partners.
The launch included an opening ceremony featuring heartfelt messages from stakeholders, a forum on hearing health awareness, inspiring talks, lectures, messages from donors, and the ceremonial awarding of the first recipients of hearing aids. The afternoon activities involved hearing screenings and providing hearing aids to selected candidates, along with volunteer training workshops.
This initiative transforms the traditional charity model into a sustainable cycle of community empowerment through its innovative “pay-it-forward” program, which fosters a sense of purpose and responsibility among beneficiaries.
Primary site: WPR – Philippines
Impactful Story:
At the event, 28-year-old Jasper Arreza experienced a life-changing moment. Living with Fanconi anemia—a rare condition causing small stature, skin pigmentation, and progressive hearing loss.
During the event, specialists confirmed his severe hearing loss. As one of the first recipients of the newly established Hearing Aid Bank, Jasper received professionally fitted hearing aids that day.
The moment they were fitted, his face lit up with pure joy. Without hesitation, he began singing his favorite song—a moment that moved everyone to tears. This powerful transformation demonstrates how World Hearing Day initiatives create an immediate, meaningful impact for those with hearing challenges.
