Alternate tite:

Promoting hearing health: Screening and awareness for better hearing care

Description:

World Hearing Day 2025 saw a remarkable effort by the institute to promote ear and hearing health through public education, screening, media engagement, and advocacy. A comprehensive education program on ‘Ear and Hearing Health’ was conducted for 117 Community Health Officers in Mysuru district, equipping them with essential knowledge.

Screening programs were held, where 27 children, 76 elderly individuals, and 127 noise-exposed industrial workers were assessed for hearing loss. Notably, 27 children received hearing aid trials and were prescribed hearing aids. In a community survey camp by NSS AIISH, 41,888 individuals in Koppala district were screened, identifying 1,179 with hearing disorders.

Media engagement included newspaper articles on newborn hearing loss and a public education radio talk on ‘Ear and Hearing Care,’ significantly raising public awareness. A Walkathon in Mysuru, organized by various medical institutions, hospitals, and professional associations, saw 250 ENT surgeons and audiologists advocating for ear and hearing health, showcasing a united community effort.
