World Hearing Day 2025 focused on transforming societal perceptions and challenging misconceptions about hearing loss and ear care.
Empowered individuals can drive change within themselves and in society at large.
This year the WHD activities started in mid February with the screening of Special Olympic athletes on the three main islands.
All clients attending the ANC clinic at the Family hospital, Perseverance were invited for hearing screening and there was a good turnout from the group as well as their husbands,
Another interesting activity involved a group of workers from the school of music ; mainly music and dance instructors, as well as the support staff. This initiative was warmly welcomed by the management because good hearing is a key factor in their profession
On World Hearing Day,3rd March 2025, the main activity was held at the Seychelles Port Authority. The staff working in noisy environment were selected to have their ears tested. The group included mechanical engineers, technicians forklift drivers, marine mechanics and tugboat crew. This activity was well supported by the Health and Safety Unit.
Hearing screening was also included in the Health Fair organized for the staff at the headquaters of the Ministry of Education, Mont Feuri. The participants comprised of the minister,principal secretary and heads od units in the ministry It was a day long activity which involved eye testing,diabetic,blood pressure and BMI checks.
Students form the French school participated in an eye and ear screening activity initiated jointly by Vision Care and the Audiology unit as part of the WHD program.
Educational talks were given to the students and teachers from St Mary’s school La Digue and Grand Anse Mahe primary school.
Maia Hotel was another working place which participated in the screening program for all cadres of the staff, This activity was facilitated by the HR department and the hotel nurse and it was well appreciated by the workers.
The activities will continue throughout the year so as to empower the maximum persons about changing mindset in regards to ear and hearing care,
