Alternate tite:

Hearing care and prevention of its consequences: promoting public awareness and changing attitudes

Description:

The Audiology Department of Iran University of Medical Sciences (IUMS) organized multiple activities on World Hearing Day to raise awareness and promote accurate understanding of hearing health. A campaign was held at the School of Rehabilitation Sciences offering free initial hearing screenings to students and staff, as well as a 50% discount to all visitors. Educational brochures on hearing protection, tinnitus, and hearing aid use were distributed.
In addition, the department actively participated in the National Conference on Health Achievements in Ear and Hearing Care. An expert panel titled “Exploring Cultural Barriers to Hearing Loss and Strategies for Promoting Awareness” was conducted with faculty, sociologists, and Deaf community leaders. Discussions focused on stigma, limited public knowledge about Deaf culture and sign language, and the need for inclusive policies. The events aimed to challenge misconceptions, change public attitudes, and support the development of an inclusive society for people with hearing loss.
