In observance of World Hearing Day 2025, Hospital Santo Tomás (HST) carried out its annual awareness campaign aimed at promoting ear and hearing care among patients, healthcare workers, and the wider hospital community. This year’s initiative marked a significant expansion of efforts with the strategic integration of nursing professionals and the inclusion of an academic lecture for medical staff on recent genetic advances and groundbreaking treatments in hearing loss management.
A Genetics Specialist delivered a clinical lecture detailing the application of exome sequencing for identifying rare genetic variants in pediatric patients, along with emerging gene therapy strategies targeting inherited forms of deafness, including mutations in OTOF, GJB2, and TMC1.
