Organization: Hear Our Steps
Title: Virtual Walkathon Fundraiser
Alternate tite:
Virtual walkathon fundraiser
Description:
On April 27, 2025, 98 participants from around the world walked a collective 523 miles in support of hearing loss research and community programs. What began as a small local event in Los Angeles grew into a global movement through an inclusive virtual format. Youth, adults, and seniors across four countries including the United States, China, and several in Europe joined in solidarity for a brighter future for the hard-of-hearing community.
Hear Our Steps combined my passion for running with my growing advocacy for hearing health, a cause that personally affects me and millions of youth worldwide. The event raised over $2,000, with all proceeds going to the House Institute for hearing loss research and to SELPA in Los Angeles to support low-income students with hearing disabilities.
Primary site: AMR – United States of America
Secondary sites: China, Spain, Portugal
Impactful Story:
The walkathon proceeds were donated to two organizations that support hard-of-hearing youth through both immediate assistance and long-term impact.
The first beneficiary is the West San Gabriel Valley Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA). The funds will help provide essential resources such as classroom aides and medical equipment for low-income students with hearing loss and other disabilities.
The second beneficiary is the House Institute in Los Angeles, a global leader in research and training on hearing and balance disorders. The donation will help advance innovative treatments and professional training for providers, improving diagnosis and care for future patients.
