Alternate tite:
World Hearing Day celebration at Kuala Lumpur General Hospital: advocating for ear and hearing care
Description:
In conjunction with World Hearing Day 2025, the Audiology Unit of Kuala Lumpur General Hospital organized a comprehensive celebration to raise awareness among the public and healthcare professionals about preventive hearing health practices. The initiative aimed to promote greater understanding and commitment to hearing care across all ages. The event featured a series of interactive and educational activities aligned with the WHO-MLS initiative, which advocates for safe listening practices and early hearing care. A key highlight was a short video presentation showcasing the lived experiences of individuals with hearing loss, emphasizing empathy, inclusivity, and understanding. The event also offered free hearing screenings for adolescents and the elderly, an educational booth on hearing aids, and informative posters detailing hearing loss prevention strategies. To further enhance public outreach, participants received educational materials such as a decibel level chart, a life-course guide to hearing health, and complimentary earplugs. Demonstrations on the proper use of earplugs and earmuffs, hands-on activity booths, and interactive quizzes contributed to an engaging and informative experience for all attendees. The event was successfully carried out through the collaborative efforts of the ENT Department and various other hospital units, reflecting a strong multidisciplinary commitment to promoting ear and hearing care. This program aimed to foster greater awareness about hearing loss, encourage the consistent use of hearing protection—especially in noisy environments—and promote early detection and intervention. Ultimately, the initiative strives to improve the quality of life by cultivating a culture of preventive hearing healthcare within the community.
