On March 6, 2025, the Study and Research Group on Deafness in Benin (GEReS.Be) organized a conference at the Institute of Applied Biomedical Sciences (ISBA) to mark World Hearing Day. This event brought together prestigious guests, including general practitioners, pediatricians, gynecologists, ENT experts, examiners, and specialists from Parakou, Burkina Faso, and other African countries.
The conference was held under the theme “Management of non-congenital deafness.” The event was officially launched at 3:00 p.m. by Professor Wassi ADJIBABI. The keynote address was given by Professor Alexis do SANTOS, a specialist in otorhinolaryngology (ENT).
In his presentation, Professor do SANTOS Alexis covered the following topics in detail:
• Anatomical and physiological overview of the acoustic organ: descriptive and topographical anatomy of the ear and its functions;
• Elements of positive differential and etiological diagnosis of non-congenital deafness;
• Screening and diagnostic methods: tools and strategies for early identification;
• Transmission and perception causes of non-congenital hearing loss;
• Therapeutic basis for treatment.
The presentation sparked many enriching discussions. Participants asked various questions and shared relevant comments.
The conference ended at 5:15 p.m., marking a day rich in learning and sharing around a major public health issue.
