The Telethon Kids Institute team held a stall at Perth Children’s Hospital to engage children and their families to provide education and share resources. Families were able to discuss any hearing concerns with ear and hearing researchers and audiologists. Around 80 children joined in the fun, and many participated in activities to learn about ears – for older children they observed how a glittery slime (representing the glue that can trap bacteria in the inner ear) impairs the transfer of sound within a homemade ear model and younger children watched 100s and 1000s dance on a homemade ear drum model as they use instruments or their voices to create sound. Local Noongar man Dylan Shillito played the didgeridoo, linking the sound to ears, hearing and movement in an engaging way. Many children (and adults) were fascinated by this activity.
