HearMi Ghana team educated the people of Kave (a rural community located in the ketu North municipality of Ghana, West Africa) on hearing loss, causes and it’s prevention. We enlightened them on the need to change their mindsets relative to myths and misconceptions about people with hearing impairment and hearing loss in general. We made them aware of our efforts to make hearing health readily available to all and this involves their collaborative efforts. They asked questions which we answered to their understanding. The exercise followed with ear and hearing screening where 135 people benefited from otoscopy examination and screening pure tone Audiometry. At the end of the screening exercise, 48 people had cerumen impaction, 12 had fungal infection, 8 had middle ear infection, 14 of them had various degrees of sensorineural hearing loss. They were all treated. Those with hearing loss have been referred for management.
