World Hearing Day 2024 – “changing mindsets: Lets make ear and hearing care a reality for all!” : Make the invisible disability noticeable.

Chitra Educational and Rehabilitation Academy(CERA) was involved in creating awareness and desensitizing the sigma among persons with hearing disability in the rural population of Tamil Nadu. An Awareness talk involving Experienced Rehabilitation professionals, audiologists, Police Officers, NGO patrons, Anganwadi officers, and Village panchayath head was organized in Thanjavur, Ariyalur, & Chengalpattu Districts of Tamil Nadu, India. Hearing screening Camps were conducted at CSI Residential School, Thanjavur, Panchayath Office, Vettriyur Village, Ariyalur & Anganwadi Center, Kelambakkam, Chengalpattu Districts of Tamil Nadu, India. Nearly 500 beneficiaries were screened at three different localities together. Street play(Katcheri) program, along with play activities for children with disability enlightening hearing loss and ear care, was conducted at the school premises. Live announcements about hearing care were carried out in and around the villages mentioned above. Distribution of pamphlets on hearing awareness was done. Hearing awareness was created for nearly 10,000 to 15,000 people through these activities.
