Launch of ‘Primary Care Audiology – accessible ear and hearing care for all’

We launched ‘Primary Care Audiology – accessible ear and hearing care for all’ on World Hearing Day.

Our goals were to change mindsets about hearing loss, encourage policymakers to treat hearing loss as a public health priority and to raise awareness about inequalities in access to care.

In the UK, people without the ability to pay face barriers when accessing ear and hearing care. For example, being required to visit a GP for an audiology referral and then facing long waits for an appointment. We called for NHS funded primary care audiology (PCA) to help tackle these inequalities in access.

For our launch, we shared YouTube animations – summarising PCA and its key benefits – alongside our evidence-based document presenting the clinical and economic case for change. We shared this through a targeted email campaign with parliamentarians, decision-makers, and NHS and sector leads across the UK.
