NYU Langone Health’s Institute for Excellence in Health Equity and the Department of Otolaryngology organized a weekend of activities in houses of worship in the New York Metroplitan area to raise community awareness about hearing loss.

On February 29th, 2024, a virtual conversation entitled “Hearing and Ear Care for Immigrant Communities” was held with members and staff of houses of worship, community organizations, government agencies, and NYU Langone Health.

Following the conversation, community leaders from houses of worship received training from J. Thomas Roland, Jr. MD, Professor of Otolaryngology from NYU Grossman School of Medicine, to raise awareness about Hearing Loss from the pulpit, using talking points.
From March 1st-3rd, participating houses of worship (Islamic Society of Bay Ridge, Temple of Restoration Church, Our Lady of Perpetual Church, and New Jerusalem SDA Church) used the provided materials to raise awareness, reaching 5,000 people locally and 300,000 globally through social media.
