In March 2024, the Hospital Universitario Dr. Agostinho Neto held activities for adult and paediatric audiology clients to celebrate the World Hearing Day (WHD).

For children, we conducted an otoacoustic emissions (OAE) screening.
16 children between 2 and 12 years old were assessed: 7 boys and 9 girls, mean age 5.3 years of age.
From these children, 10 had a PASS result, and 6 had a REFER result on OEA.
The 6 children with REFER results were sent to E.N.T. for follow up.

For adults, we shared a social media article about the importance of WHD day and the situation on the ground in Cape Verde, to address misconceptions around hearing care, and to help achieve more accessible ear and hearing care.

We also followed up the hearing aid patients from last year, who had been fitted with hearing aids provided by donations, to see what benefits they had derived.
