World hearing day celebration

Primary site: AFR – Democratic Republic of the Congo
Additional site(s): South Kivu Mugogo

We conducted weekly activities including community outreach to advocate safe listenning and promote ear and hearing health practices. We use Media and Radio shows to reach a population of more than 2 millions of people. We selected a rural health centre of about 5 thousand people, specially poor population with predominance of ear and hearing conditions such as chronic otitis media, hearing loss and eyes problems. The prior report on ear health in the site showed a number of school ongoing children reducing their school performance. The total of 50 patients were screened. 15 of them were found with ear and hearing problems with clear signs of tinnitus, hearing loss, effusion, suppuration, etc. The audiometry features showed 4 patients with profound hearing loss, 6 with mild to severe sensorineural loss. Among them, 3 school children and 2 15 ears old ladies stopped because of stigma due to hearing loss.
