Event Description:

EHFI celebrates World Hearing Day as a week-long celebration, showcasing all our ear and hearing care services. In this activity we aimed to reach more people and increase awareness of those who may be in the city or rural areas focusing on the children, working-age group and the senior citizens. We have ear and hearing screenings conducted, dispensing of medicines, consultations with the ENT and hearing testing with hearing aid fitting conducted to different areas including our main clinic. Alongside the ear and hearing services offered we integrated the eye health services.

Other Suggestions:

A hearing aid grant for deserving patients with no financial capacity to purchase the device may also be good. As we conducted the outreach, we learned that there are many more hearing impaired individuals who could actually benefit from the hearing aids but have no purchasing power. They are the type of people who live by their daily means and earn just enough to get by. If given a chance to have a device, their life would be better and perhaps they could earn more and be productive. Being left alone in the family’s conversations add up to the mental well being of these elderlies.

Did You Apply for Grant:Yes, we were awarded the grant

Photo 2 caption This female patient complained about having hearing difficulty sometimes. After screening we found out that she has an impacted cerumen that may cause the hearing difficulty, so we provided her an eardrops to help the wax out and was referred to the nearest ENT doctor for follow up.

Photo 3 caption HE was one of the recipients from our community screening referred to a hearing testing as he complained that he had hearing difficulty. The result showed that he needs a new set of hearing aid as his existing hearing aid is no longer able to support his hearing threshold level that is getting severe to early profound.
