Along with the nation’s preschool and primary education teachers, Vision Care Hearing Solutions has planned an island-wide campaign centered around the World Health Organization’s topic of “Changing mindset.” We held unique awareness workshops for elementary teachers at five key locations: Mt. Lavinia, Galle, Maharagama, Kurunegala, and Jaffna, as part of this project. More than 200 primary school teachers participated in the event, which had lectures from ENT doctors, audiologists, speech-language pathologists, and child psychologists. After the presentations, there was a Q&A period when teachers could ask questions and get their questions answered. Participants also received a little pamphlet with important information translated into the local language to help with their practice. Simultaneously, with the awareness presentation, Mr. Chaminda Vass, a well-known cricketer in Sri Lanka, presented a special announcement about hearing loss awareness, which was shown in both traditional and social media to support this year’s topic.
