Sonic Cradle: Fostering Awareness for Infant Hearing Health

Primary site: SEAR- Nepal
Additional site(s):

On World Hearing Day 2024, we organized an event to celebrate the success of children who underwent hearing screenings during immunization sessions and subsequently received hearing aid fittings. Parents, vaccinators, and healthcare workers shared their experiences, highlighting the need for infant hearing screening (IHS) and the challenging yet triumphant journey toward children’s hearing health. Children fitted with hearing aids introduced themselves at the event and were applauded by attendees. Stakeholders in hearing health, including ENT-HNS Surgeons, Community Ear Health Workers, Pediatricians, and Public Health Professionals, were present, and a cake was cut for celebration. A video on IHS was premiered during the event and was later uploaded to YouTube. Throughout the week, an educational campaign was conducted in outreach centers to educate the general public about the importance of IHS. A flex in the Nepali language highlighting the benefits of early detection and intervention has been hung at these centers.
