Living and Ageing Well with Diabetes: Uncovering the Links with Hearing Loss

Primary site: EUR – United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
Additional site(s):

Diabetes and hearing loss are major health challenges. They affect the lives of millions of people in England and many millions around the world. The evidence is that older people with diabetes are twice as likely to experience hearing loss. We delved into the latest research findings and discussed the implications for living and ageing well. The event had inspiring talks from cutting-edge researchers and the Royal National Institute for Deaf People (RNID). It also included an interactive session where attendees shared their insights on why understanding the connection between diabetes and hearing loss is crucial for individuals and their families. This event was co-organised by the Centre for Research on Ageing and the All EARS PPIE group at the University of Southampton and was registered with the World Health Organization as part of the international series of activities for World Hearing Day 2024, themed ‘Changing Mindsets.’
