Screening & Education Campaign in the Philippines

Primary site: WPR – Philippines

EarAccess Inc. organized a World Hearing Day event in the Philippines in collaboration with the municipal government of Quezon City in Metro Manila. Over 100 people were screened for hearing loss, a subset were fitted with hearing aids and keynote speeches were given by the head of the National Disability Council, a well-known Deaf influencer, an audiology professor at the University of Santo Tomas and government representatives. The audience was particularly engaged around the theme of “changing mindsets” around hearing loss and many felt they had learned a lot during the awareness session. One common misconception in the Philippines is that “leaking ears” is normal; several audience members commented after hearing the practical advice from the audiologist’s presentation that they had learned that leaking ears could be a sign of an ear infection and should be addressed immediately by going to a doctor.
