Region: Uganda
Title: Building Ear and Hearing Care Services from the Grassroots: Hearing Health for All
Description: A joint effort was undertaken by Atlas Audio and Medical Limited (AAML) and Mbarara University of Science and Technology’s ENT department (MUST-ENT) to conduct a community outreach at Okoa Refuge Centre, a home to 300 residents, including 200 children. The initiative included ear examinations, cleanings, and hearing screenings for the children using the ShoeBox iPad play audiometer. To further equip the center’s sole nurse, we provided continuing medical education (CME) on managing common ear infections and introduced the WHO hearing screening app. Additionally, we checked the hearing aids of two children who use them. To ensure ongoing care, we left behind basic ear care kits and World Health Day brochures.
