Title: Ear and Hearing Care for All! Let’s Make it a Reality

In 2023, World Hearing Day was commemorated by Hearing Health Rwanda (HHR), the Rwanda Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery Society (ROHNSS), Humanhood Clinics, and the Ministry of Health through various initiatives to promote ear and hearing health awareness. The team visited the Institute Filippo Smaldone (IFS) school for the deaf, providing educational materials to 30 students, and conducting an informative health talk at a public school in the city of Kigali, Rwanda. This was accompanied by a hearing screening and treatment drive where 341 children were examined, revealing 86 cases of impacted wax and 16 instances of severe hearing loss. A live, interactive radio show was broadcast on the national station, which included a Q&A session. These efforts were widely reported by both online and traditional media, reaching an estimated 2 million people.
