Title: Mass Campaign on Good Ear and Hearing Hygiene
Description: In support of World Hearing Day 2023, the University of Pretoria’s Department of Speech Language
Pathology and Audiology, a World Health Organization collaboration centre, conducted several
hearing promotion and prevention campaigns with the primary objective of informing the general
public about the importance of ear and hearing health. The first campaign was at Generaal Beyers
Primary School where educational presentations were given to children in grades 1 through 5. The presentation focused on safe listening and ear hygiene practices as well as the importance of seeking help for hearing problems. The second campaign was on campus, where free hearing screenings and presentations on healthy hearing were offered to students. To maximize reach, the university used various media outlets including Tuks FM, Power FM, and Channel Afrika to spread the message of good ear and listening practices.
