Title: Celebrating World Hearing Day 2023
Description: The Kampala Parents of Children with Disabilities Association Makindye (KAPCDAM) organized a three-day ear and hearing care awareness initiative in Salaama and Luwafu parishes, reaching over 7,600 individuals. In collaboration with the Kosovo Bar Owners’ Association, Kosovo Local Council I, and local journalists, they focused on the importance of maintaining recommended noise levels and devised an action strategy to combat excessive noise emissions. They also provided training to Village Health Teams (VHTs) on ear and hearing care, equipping them to disseminate relevant information within their communities. On the main event day, a march took place featuring KAPCDAM staff, board members, children with disabilities, and their parents. They covered three kilometers, playing brass instruments to raise community awareness. A petition was later submitted to the Maria Thereza Maternity Clinic in Kampala, Uganda, by parents and young individuals with disabilities, requesting the introduction of ear and hearing care services.
