Title: Flood Recovery Volunteer Hearing Protection Donation
Description: Cyclone Gabrielle led to catastrophic flooding just before World Hearing Day, necessitating the use of heavy equipment by volunteers, exposing them to continuous loud noise for days during clean-up efforts. This prompted the swift donation of boxes of hearing protection that were then distributed to volunteers by the New Zealand defense force. The cyclone’s devastation unfortunately caused the postponement of the launch of an antenatal class module, as well. However, once launched in June on the ParentCenter website and featured in Kiwiparent magazine, the module, covering topics like diet, vaccinations, middle ear issues, medication, and noise, reached over 30,000 people, including all medical practices. Concurrently, efforts to shape policy were undertaken by distributing white cat pins, symbolizing hearing loss prevention, among parliament members, receiving support from the prime minister and others. Lastly, a seminar on tinnitus was also conducted in Nelson.
