Title: Ear & Hearing Screening of Children with Down Syndrome for WDSD and WHD 2023
Description: In recognition of both World Hearing Day and World Down Syndrome Day, the EHC/PGPKT Committees conducts annual ear screenings for children with Down syndrome across all 14 POTADS centers in Indonesia. This year, 812 children with Down syndrome were screened across various Indonesian regions such as Jakarta, Sumut, Padang, Lampung, and others. The program included hearing screenings, ear cleanings, cerumen extraction training for primary care providers & students, and engaging activities, such as singing, dancing, and drumming. EHC Regional Committees, Perhati-BKL branches, POTADS branches, residents, and students actively participated. The screenings revealed that children with Down syndrome tend to have more ear wax than others which can affect their hearing. It’s crucial to clean their ears regularly to prevent any additional hearing loss.
