Title: Influencing Attitudes Towards the Care of Persons with Hearing Impairment
Description: In March 2023, the Association of People with Hearing Loss – Uganda (APHEL-UGANDA) marked World Hearing Day with a series of activities to raise awareness about hearing loss. This included a live television show on URBAN TV Uganda and a feature in the New Vision newspaper, highlighting causes and types of hearing loss, personal experiences, challenges faced by those affected, and the measures taken to overcome these hurdles. The organization also called for the government to incorporate individualized ear and hearing care into national health plans to make such services more affordable. They further urged for a review of existing policies and programs that aim to meet the needs of individuals with hearing loss and other physical disabilities.
