World Hearing Day is held on March 3rd each year to raise awareness on how to prevent deafness and hearing loss and promote ear and hearing care across the world. In line with this year’s theme “Changing Mindsets: Empower yourself! Make ear & hearing care a reality for all!”, the NYU Langone Health Immigrant Children Hearing Loss Screening Program staff will be conducting phone outreach to parents of 42 children in New York City and Long Island identified through the program as needing hearing loss assessment but whose parents were unable to keep their scheduled appointments.
Recognizing that immigrant families are faced with many obstacles that impact their ability to keep their scheduled appointments, this initiative marking the World Health Day offers parents a non-working day -special weekend clinic – opportunity including travel assistance to bring their children for evaluation. This special clinic will be staffed by Otolaryngologists and nurses.
