Title: Hearing Impairment Genetics Studies in Africa (HI-GeneS Africa) – WACCBIP

Description:

The event held on March 3, 2023, at the Centre’s Conference Hall at the University of Ghana launched the ‘Hearing Impairment Resource Pack’, which raises awareness of deafness and provide essential basic information on ear care, aimed to sensitized target population on seeking early assistance. Present at the gathering included journalists and media personalities from both traditional and electronic media, members of the deaf community, staff of schools for Deaf in Ghana and a representative from the Ghana Health Service. The resource pack contains information and contact details of different organizations, schools, and health facilities in Ghana that provide varied supportive and assistive service to the Deaf community. Key research findings from hearing impairment genetic investigations conducted at WACCBIP were presented at the meeting. Participants deliberated on highlights from the research findings, and varied perspectives that focused on the theme for 2023 World Hearing Day celebration were shared as well.
