Title: Hearing Loss Awareness and Screening Program

Description:

To mark World Hearing Day, NYU Langone Health partnered with community and faith-based organizations to offer hearing loss screening and raise awareness about hearing loss in Brooklyn, NY. In total, 877 brochures were distributed to community members during the week of World Hearing Day. Brochures were available in English, Arabic, Bangla, Chinese, and Spanish. Community partners held a hearing loss screening for community members at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church on March 1st, 2023. It was covered by NYC PIX 11 News TV. A total of 35 children and adults were screened for hearing loss. Those who failed the hearing screen were referred for follow-up. On March 3rd, 2023, NYU Langone Health invited 50 community stakeholders to a virtual conversation on the incidence, symptoms, ramifications and treatment of hearing loss. The conversation was led by Dr. Thomas Roland Jr. an otolaryngologist in NYU Langone Health.
