Description: In March 2023, we conducted a global sound measurement competition known as a mapathon. Participants from around the world, known as ambassadors, measured the noise levels in various locations including restaurants, bars, coffee shops, retail stores, churches, gyms, and arenas. The collected data was then submitted to a publicly accessible worldwide database. This initiative not only provides concrete evidence to public health and noise pollution advocates about the loudness of different environments, but also tracks noise trends over time, indicating whether the world is becoming quieter or louder.
