Title: Making Ear and Hearing Care Accessible and Affordable in Northwest Nigeria
Description: Our week-long event in Kano State, Nigeria focused on the World Health Organization’s theme of ear and hearing care for all, aiming to raise public awareness and encourage policy makers to implement a national strategy for ear and hearing care. Kano State is the only government in North West Nigeria currently providing dedicated services for ear diseases and hearing loss. We initiated a radio awareness program on March 3, 2023, featuring specialists discussing preventive measures against hearing loss and available treatment facilities in Kano State. We repeated this program twice for maximum reach. Additionally, on March 8, 2023, we conducted free neonatal screenings for at-risk babies, with parental consent, using DPOAE, and provided hands-on training for nurses in obstetrics and gynecology, ENT, and neonatal wards.
