Title: Hearing Aids Donation
Description: From February 19th to 24th, the Hospital Universitário Dr. Agostinho Neto undertook pure tone and speech audiometry tests, identifying 42 individuals with hearing loss. Of these, 35 were provided with free hearing aids, including 7 children and 28 adults. A follow-up in March revealed successful adjustments to the aids. This project was implemented in partnership with the Fundacao Clarós (Spain) and Cavibel & Ceris (Equatorial Coca-cola Bottling Company Cabo Verde). The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) estimates that 126,000 to 500,000 children are born with hearing loss annually, with 90% residing in developing countries. This condition significantly impacts their neuropsychomotor development. Furthermore, the study also emphasized the importance of neonatal hearing screening in Cape Verde for prompt intervention and parental education.
