Title: World Hearing Day with the Western Visayas Medical Center

Annually, the Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) in Iloilo City, Philippines joins the global community in celebrating World Hearing Day. This year, the center organzied a host of activities and services in the Western Visayas region. Starting on March 3, 2023, the medical center held an educational forum for hearing care in the outpatient department, promoting proper ear care and encouraging early consultation for potential hearing loss, and offered complimentary hearing examinations to patients present on that day, including newborn hearing screening services and free baseline hearing evaluations for cancer patients. On March 11, 2023, a public forum took place in Roxas City, on the other side of the island, educating residents there on proper ear and hearing care and providing complimentary ear cleaning sessions. A live online interview took place with the head of our Hearing Center Unit on March 19, 2023 hosted by Bombo Radyo Iloilo, a media broadcasting station and long-standing collaborator with our organization, in order to reach a broader audience. Later that week, the WVMC held a lay forum in the prenatal clinic on March 23rd, providing additional counseling to pregnant patients and other participants about the importance of newborn hearing screenings. Lastly, on March 25th, an educational presentation and complimentary ear cleaning for all participants was held at the Mandurriao Elementary School in Iloilo City, in collaboration with the Philippine Pediatric Society.
