Title: Chichiri Prison Ear and Hearing Care for All
Description: Chichiri Prison, which houses over 2,500 inmates, recently conducted an ear screening for 44 inmates and 6 staff. The age distribution of those screened was as follows: 10 were between 0-25 years, 36 were between 26-65 years, and 4 were above 65 years. The gender distribution included 30 males and 20 females. Among the health issues identified, 14 had normal results, 9 had infections, 9 had wax impactions, 17 had hearing impairments, and 3 had foreign bodies in the ear. All individuals received counseling on ear care according to WHO guidelines. Treatment was administered to those with infections, and a follow-up was scheduled within two weeks. Wax and foreign bodies were removed, while those with hearing impairments were referred to the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital Audiology. The initiative was appreciated for addressing the inmates’ health issues.
